Greene County court of common pleas

IMG_8882.jpg

The materials included in this collection comprise mainly decisions on civil cases arbitrated by the Court of Common Pleas in Greene County. These are not the record copy of the cases from the Court System, instead it is likely these papers were maintained by a law firm in Catskill active during the date range of c. 1800 to 1850. The Court of Common Pleas was abolished following reforms of the court system after the 1846 NYS Constitutional Convention. The role of the Court of Common Pleas was thereafter filled by the New York State Supreme Court. Some later files in this collection are actually civil cases tried before the Supreme Court.

What follows is an inventory of available files with drawer number, date,
and case name/folder title.
