Family Genealogical Files for Greene County, NY

The Vedder Research Library maintains vertical reference files on many family groups which have called Greene County home for at least a generation. All files are organized by surname and utilize the most common spelling or variation of the surname. Contents of these files generally include but are not limited to: letters of inquiry by family genealogists, email and handwritten inquiry replies, genealogical gleanings on family members, small family trees, copies of family bible registers, and newspaper articles and obituaries. Occasionally copies of vital records may be found, but these files should not be considered a resource for birth and death certificates. The existence of a family genealogical file usually indicates that the VRL may also hold manuscript material filed separately on the family, but this is not universally true.
