Historical Note

The Goslee family resided in the Town of Jewett on the mountaintop in Western Greene County. Henry Goslee, a veteran of the American Revolution with a prestigious record, built the family farm in Jewett upon which his family resided for over a century. Milton Goslee, a descendant of Henry, was a Postmaster of Jewett at the end of the 19th century. The collection was donated in the mid-1970s by a relative residing in Connecticut.

The collection contains the Goslee family’s business and legal papers from the 19th century primarily comprising receipts, correspondence, deeds and account books. The box is divided by pertinent individual or organization, with folders devoted to Henry Goslee, Henry Goslee, Jr., Milton Goslee, William Goslee, and Fred Goslee along with a file on the family in the 20th century that contains details about the donor. Materials pertaining to the Town of Jewett, the Jewett Creamery Association, and the Lexington Congregational Society also appear in separate folders.
