Historical Background
The First Baptist Church of Catskill was established in 1803 with seven original members. The congregation met in the home of one of those seven, Deacon Hiland Hill, for the first twenty years, though they would occasionally meet in the Catskill Court House, schoolhouses, and the homes of other members. The congregation has had five different buildings to date. The first three were tragically destroyed by fires. The fourth building, dedicated in 1873, was eventually sold, and a new building was constructed on West Main Street. The congregation disaffiliated with the Baptist denomination and now operates under the name Community Life Church.
